Your Keeper / Junior Keeper Experience - What to expect
Your keeper/junior keeper experience will be one to remember! To make sure you get the most out of it, here’s a few things you need to know before you arrive!
Clothing: Wear clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting dirty. You will be mucking in with the mucking out! You will also get a chance to handle some of the animals. We will provide disposable gloves and apron and we also use foot dips in certain areas so close toed shoes are a must, even in the height of summer!
Arrival Time: You should aim to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of your experience.
Introduction: Brief introduction about the centre and the tasks you will be helping the keeper with. There will also be a health and safety talk.
Keeper/Junior keeper experience:
Under the close supervision of a Zoo2U keeper, you will get involved with cleaning, feeding and watering some of our wonderful animals. You will be given the opportunity to ask lots of questions throughout the experience, so don’t be shy as our staff love talking about the animals in their care! There will be the chance to create enrichment for a range of animals, as well as either health checking or grooming some of our residents that may like a bit of pampering!
Please note that if you are under the age 16 years old you must be accompanied by an adult. If the accompanying adult is not participating in the experience we ask for a £10 spectator fee. Photos are only permitted at certain times during the experience, please ask the keeper before you take any. We do not allow flash photography!
If you love all creatures great and small then you’ll love this!
Spectators: You are welcome to bring along a spectator (for a £10 fee) to accompany or to take photographs of your experience but please note that there is no flash photography allowed. We are also unable to allow spectators into the reptile room, due to its size. However, the reptile handling part of the experience will take part in the main room of the centre.
